The Book Missió a Mart (Mission to Mars) Launches in Madrid to an Enthusiastic Public Reception

270 people attended the book launch, published by Shackleton Kids, which aims to bring space exploration closer to younger generations through the experience of the Hypatia I mission.

Last October 16, Madrid hosted the launch of Mission to Mars, a popular science book written by Helena Arias Casals, Cesca Cufí Prat and Ariadna Farrés Basiana, members of Hypatia Mars.

The event brought together 270 people of all ages and featured all three authors. Helena and Cesca attended in person, while Ariadna joined remotely from the United States. In the book, the three researchers share the knowledge and experiences they gained during the Hypatia I mission, turning them into an engaging educational adventure that explores what it would be like to travel to the Red Planet and, one day, live there.

Published by Shackleton Kids, Mission to Mars invites readers to discover the scientific and technological challenges of a crewed mission to the Red Planet. Through accessible explanations, illustrations, fascinating facts and hands-on activities, the book explores topics such as Mars’s atmosphere and gravity, crew training, space travel and the conditions required to survive on another planet.

The book also aims to introduce younger generations to the role of women in science, technology and research through the experiences of the members of Hypatia Mars.

With this publication, the association seeks to share its researchers’ experiences and demonstrate that space exploration is also an opportunity to ask questions, experiment and inspire new generations to pursue careers in science.

The enthusiastic reception of the book launch in Madrid highlights the importance of science communication as a way to bring space exploration closer to society and inspire the generations who may one day take part in future space missions.
