Geologist & GreenHab Officer
B.Sc. in Geology, M.Sc. in Astrophysics, Particle Physics and Cosmology, Ph.D. in Earth and Planetary Sciences. Postdoctoral Researcher at Universitat Autonòma de Barcelona and member of the CASA Moon node of the NASA Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute (SSERVI)
Marina Martinez received her Ph.D. in Earth and Planetary Sciences from the University of New Mexico. She holds a B.Sc in Geology by Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and earnt a Master’s degree in Astrophysics, Particle Physics and Cosmology by University of Barcelona. She also was part of a research group at the Institute of Space Sciences (2013-2016). Her work is based on microanalytical techniques in the field of Meteoritics and Planetary Sciences. Her interests include mineralogy and cosmochemistry of primitive asteroids to understand the early solar system, and volatile-bearing minerals in Mars and the Moon to unravel volatile reservoirs and their interactions. Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at UAB and a member of the Center for Advanced Sample Analysis of Astromaterials from the Moon and Beyond (Chip Shearer, PI), from the SSERVI (NASA). Her second Postdoc will be at the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt to study lunar and asteroidal samples from the sample return missions Artemis III and OSIRIS-REx (NASA).
