Rosa Argelaguet i Isanta Award for Two Hypatia Crew Members

The Manresa City Council honors engineers Estel Blay Carreras and Anna Bach Valls for their professional careers and scientific outreach work.

Estel Blay Carreras (member of Hypatia II and III crews) and Anna Bach Valls (from the Hypatia II crew) will receive the Rosa Argelaguet i Isanta Award on February 5, at the Library of the Manresa University Campus. Now in its sixth edition, this award aims to recognize and promote women who have actively contributed to research, outreach, or teaching in STEM fields, while keeping alive the memory of Dr. Argelaguet, a Catalan engineer and politician.

The award is organized by the Manresa City Council, and nominations are proposed by the entities that make up the Manresa Campus. Being born in or having a connection with the Bages region or Central Catalonia is considered when selecting the recipients. In this case, Estel Blay Carreras (aerospace engineer and PhD in Aerospace Science and Technology) is from Manresa, and Anna Bach Valls (computer engineer and mathematician) is from Moià.

This award aims to promote women’s access to and participation in science, a goal that Dr. Rosa Argelaguet i Isanta strongly supported. For this reason, it is presented annually around the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, on February 11.
