Neus Sabaté is a Research Professor and Deputy Director of the Institute of Microelectronics of Barcelona. Trained as a physicist, she has devoted her scientific career to the development of innovative microsystems in the field of physical sensors and power sources. Her research has been funded by major institutions including the European Research Council and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She is strongly motivated to bring her research outside the laboratory and test it in real‑world environments as a first step toward the successful deployment of her inventions in society. She has co‑founded two spin-off companies derived from her research: Fuelium — a spin‑off company aimed at developing and commercialising paper‑based batteries for single‑use portable devices — and Sweanty, a company that provides a smart device to help athletes optimise their hydration.
