Hypatia Mars receives special mention at the 2023 Ciutat de Barcelona awards

The Hypatia I team was recognised with a prestigious special mention at the 2023 Ciutat de Barcelona awards, in the category of Experimental Sciences and Technology, at a ceremony held in the Saló de Cent of the Barcelona City Hall.

This recognition highlights our work on a scientific mission in a simulated Mars station, as well as our ongoing efforts to promote STE(A)M careers among young women, inspiring new generations and fostering diversity in the fields of science and technology.

Composed of Mariona Badenas-Agustí, Carla Conejo, Adriana Farrés Basiana, Laia Ribas, Neus Sabaté, Cesca Cufí-Prat, and Núria Jar, the Hypatia I team was recognized not only for their research but also for their mission to make scientific knowledge more accessible and engaging for young women, encouraging them to explore careers in traditionally male-dominated fields. The award jury, which included renowned figures such as Maria Pau Ginebra, Maria Bernabeu, Ulises Cortés, Anna Sanpera, and Pep Vidal, emphasized the social and educational value of Hypatia I’s project. The Ciutat de Barcelona Awards, granted since 1949, honour outstanding creative and scientific projects connected to the city. Over the years, these awards have evolved to reflect Barcelona’s cultural and scientific transformation. By recognizing Hypatia I this year, the award highlights the team’s commitment to building a more inclusive, accessible, and inspiring environment for future women scientists.
