Hypatia joins #100tífiques to promote new scientific role models

Hypatia I crew participated in #100tífiques, an initiative that celebrates in Catalonia the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, established by United Nations on February 11th.

#100tífiques is an annual event that promotes scientific and technical vocations among young students, particularly among girls. In this sense, nearly 500 women gave talks in more than 400 schools simultaneously throughout Catalonia in its fourth edition to inspire new scientific careers.

Before these talks, Hypatia gave a warm welcome to the students in an introductory video, where Mariona Badenas-Agustí and Carla Conejo González explained the relevance of women in science and in space exploration.

Previously, the opening session of #100tífiques was on February 4th, at the University of Barcelona. Núria Jar presented the event, when Carla Conejo, Ariadna Farrés Basiana, Laia Ribas and Anna Bach explained Hypatia’s I mission which will take place next April 2023.

The goal of #100tífiques is to highlight the role of women as scientists and identify good practices that lead to gender equality in the sector. Furthermore, this event aims to promote reference female models in the fields of science and engineering to encourage scientific vocations, especially among girls.

The event was organized by the Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació (FCRI) and the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST), with collaboration from the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Department of Education.
