Carla Conejo, crew executive officer and crew biologist of Hypatia I, participated at the 4th Edition of the STEM Conference on space-related educational activities, organized by the Educational Telematics Network of Catalonia (XTEC).
During the keynote session, Carla talked about the underrepresentation of women and other minority groups in the aerospace sector –1 out of 10 astronauts are women– and the need to promote science and technology vocations through education.
In 2022 Hypatia I launched its first educational project, a “Course for Astronauts” designed for students aged 6 to 12 years old. It was the first time that this project was presented in front of an audience specialized in education. Carla also talked about Hypatia I’s mission to the Mars Desert Research Station station in Utah, in the United States, where the crew will conduct high-quality space-related research.
The conference took place at the Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering (EETAC), a higher education school of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia – Barcelona TECH.
